Coats is safeguarding environmental health by being part of the ZDHC Initiative; reducing greenhouse gas emissions; increasing usage of biofuels; controlling effluent water in accordance with local legislation as well as their own global standards; and being ISO 14001 ‘Environmental Management Systems’ certified.

Coats also hold Standard 100 by OEKO-TEXⓇ Certification as evidence that their products and practices have been tested against harmful substances and remunerate their workers with a fair wage.

Coats recycle plastic for use in the company’s facilities and, with their effluent treatment plant, coats are able to recycle up to 95 per cent of the water used during the dying process.

Their community driven approach begins with frequent community consultation, and extends to educating local communities in personal hygiene, hosting tree planting and clean up days, and working with charities to provide the less fortunate with apparel, household textiles or footwear.
