GOTS Certified Organic Cotton
GOTS-certified organic cotton is grown using sustainable agricultural systems that respect nature, combining tradition, innovation, and science. Unlike conventional cotton, it is cultivated without synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers, preserving soil quality and preventing water pollution. This eco-friendly approach enhances social responsibility, potentially saves water, and promotes fair relationships, improving the quality of life for farmers. Organic farming also helps sequester more carbon, lowering emissions and reducing environmental impact.
Lyocell (Lenzing Tencel)
Lyocell (Lenzing Tencel) is a natural, biodegradable fibre used in our rigid denim and ready-to-wear garments, renowned for its super soft feel. Made from treated wood pulp, Lenzing Tencel lyocell stands out for its environmental benefits. It is sourced from renewable materials and produced in a unique closed-loop system that recycles 99.5% of the solvents used. Recognised by Textile Exchange as a preferred man-made cellulosic fibre, it embodies sustainability and biodegradability, ensuring eco-friendly and comfortable garments.
Recycled Cotton
The key benefit of using recycled cotton within our rigid denim jeans is that it reduces a small amount of our reliance on virgin fibres by using fibres already in circulation.
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Cotton
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton is the primary fibre used in our pocket linings. It is combined with a small amount of virgin polyester for this use. BCI is not a type of cotton but rather a body that offers cotton farmers tools and education in farming practices that are both environmentally and socially better than conventional practices. Only BCI-certified farmers can sell their cotton as BCI-certified.
Linen
Linen has a beautiful feel, is highly breathable, and is comfortable to wear. It is also a natural and regenerative fibre made from the flax plant.
Corozo Nut Buttons
Corozo nuts are a natural alternative to plastic or metal buttons originating from a palm tree’s seed.
Remnant Fabric
Remnant fabric, consisting of leftover or scrap materials from other uses, is a sustainable choice that prevents textile waste from ending in landfills. Our remnant fabric is locally sourced from Cambodian markets and repurposed to create our Outland Denim Tote, reflecting our commitment to environmental responsibility and innovative reuse of materials.
Jacron Paper
Jacron paper is a sustainable, leather-look alternative for brand patches on our denim. Made from natural materials and free from plastics and harmful chemicals, Jacron offers an eco-friendly option that aligns with our commitment to environmental responsibility while providing the classic look of leather.
Virgin Polyester
Some Outland Denim jeans use Virgin polyester and elastane to enhance shape recovery and strength, while elastane provides stretch capacity. This blend ensures durability and comfort without compromising on fit and flexibility.
Metalware
Our metalware, including zippers from YKK and buttons and rivets from Frameless Asia, meets high standards for durability and sustainability. YKK is renowned for its leadership in durability and commitment to the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Initiative, while Frameless Asia, a Bluesign systems partner, ensures fair wages and implements water and waste recycling initiatives.
