We're moving to 100% leather free denim

As part of our 2020 Sustainability Report Series, this journal entry delves into one of the Outland Denim Sustainability Report highlights; our commitment to transition all leather brand patches to a vegan, jacron paper option. Click here to read the full report.

Animal rights are something close to the heart of many Outland Denim customers, so we wanted to be able to cater to their values while choosing a material and supplier that could also live up to our high expectations when it comes to quality.

After 12 months of research and testing, we found jacron paper to be the most sustainable and suitable option for us. Jacron paper, a vegan material made from raw cellulose, is similar in look and touch to leather. It offers excellent dimensional stability and is better for the environment and animal welfare.

In the past 12 months, 19.81% of all patches used on our garments were made from Jacron Paper. In the next 12 months, we’re aiming for 100%.

Like all Outland Denim suppliers, our jacron paper supplier was chosen for their commitment to social and environmental sustainability. Our jacron supplier, Frameless Asia have implemented water recycling and waste reduction initiatives within its facilities. As a Bluesign system partner they are required to meet a high level of safety for both people and the environment, to use resources responsibility and to continuously improve their environmental performance.

Our State of Being collection released early 2020 year was 100% leather free and as we progress with collections and garment production we look to maintain this standard, moving towards 100% leather free across our whole range.
